Privacy Policy — Beach Day: UV, Tides & Sunset Chrome Extension

What the extension does

Beach Day shows current beach conditions — a “beach day?” verdict, temperature, UV index, wind, surf height, sunrise, sunset, and tides — for the location you choose. You can either allow the browser to share your location, or type a beach or city name to search for one.

How your location is used

If you tap “Use my location,” the extension asks Chrome for your device's coordinates. Those coordinates are used in two ways: to request a local forecast from public weather and ocean data services, and to find the nearest tide station. Your coordinates are stored only on your own device (to reopen to the same place next time) and are never sent to Beached Inn or to us.

If you prefer not to share your location, you can skip it entirely and search for a beach by name instead.

Data we do NOT collect

• No name, email, or account — the extension has no sign-in
• No browsing history — it does not read the pages you visit
• No advertising identifiers, no analytics inside the extension
• No sale or sharing of any personal data with anyone

Third-party data services

To produce a forecast, the extension sends the chosen location's coordinates to these free public services and displays what they return:

• Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) — weather, UV index, sunrise/sunset, and surf/wave data
• NOAA Tides & Currents (tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov) — U.S. tide predictions

These requests contain coordinates and nothing that identifies you. Each service operates under its own privacy and usage terms.

Data stored on your device

The extension uses Chrome's local storage to remember your most recent location so it opens quickly. This stays on your device and is removed by Chrome when you uninstall the extension. Nothing is stored remotely.

Links to Beached Inn

The extension shows a featured Texas Gulf beach (Port Aransas) with links to BeachedInn.com and to book a stay. Those links include UTM parameters such as utm_source=extension, which identify the extension as the traffic source, not you personally. Following a link is entirely optional.

Permissions, in plain language

• Location (geolocation): to show conditions for where you are — only when you tap “Use my location.”
• Storage: remembers your last location on your device.
• Access to the weather and tide services above: to fetch the forecast. No other sites are accessed.

Safety note

Conditions and the “beach day” verdict are informational and based on weather and ocean data. They are not an official safety determination. Always follow posted lifeguard flags and local guidance before entering the water.

Children

The extension is not directed at children under 13 and collects no data from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If our practices change, we will update this page and the effective date above, and material changes will be reflected in the Chrome Web Store listing.
