Causeway vs Ferry

JFK Causeway via Corpus Christi (default)

For the ferry-free approach, route through Corpus Christi, take TX-358 (South Padre Island Drive) east across the JFK Causeway onto North Padre Island, then TX-361 north up Mustang Island. No ferry queue; road traffic can still affect the trip.

Aransas Pass Ferry (alternate from the north)

Free 24/7 TxDOT ferry across the Corpus Christi Ship Channel, subject to weather and operational interruptions. TxDOT says the quarter-mile crossing typically takes less than ten minutes; boarding queues vary and are not added to an ETA here. Check official status and landing cameras before traveling. Full ferry guide →

Before you leave

  • Use exact endpoints. City centers, airports, beaches and your rental are different destinations.
  • Choose the Causeway to avoid the ferry. Road traffic and weather can still affect a ferry-free trip.
  • Check ferry status before committing. Use TxDOT's official status and landing cameras; a map ETA is not a guaranteed boarding wait.
  • Plan breaks. Allow for fuel, food, rest and rental-car collection separately.

Drive-time FAQ

How are these drive times calculated?

This page builds route-map links, not travel-time estimates. Unsupported mileage, drive-time baselines, traffic multipliers and assumed ferry waits have been removed. Choose an origin, destination and approach, then check the provider's actual route, distance and ETA. Set your departure time in the maps app; road conditions, stops and ferry queues can change the trip.

How far is Corpus Christi from Port Aransas?

As a rough city-level reference, Rome2Rio's Corpus Christi → Port Aransas page, checked October 2, 2026, gives about 38 road miles and 48 minutes driving. Its generic city endpoints and unspecified road route are not a verified downtown-to-downtown or Beached Inn trip, and the estimate is not live traffic. Use the labeled maps with your exact addresses and selected approach for current provider estimates.

Should I take the ferry or the JFK Causeway?

The JFK Causeway is the paved, ferry-free approach via Corpus Christi and TX-361. The Aransas Pass ferry is an alternate approach from the north. Compare both routes for your actual addresses, and check TxDOT's operating status and landing cameras before choosing the ferry. Neither approach guarantees an arrival time.

What's the worst time to drive in?

We have not verified a best or worst departure window for these endpoints. Set the intended departure time in your maps app, check current road conditions and allow for breaks. Do not treat an off-peak map estimate as a rush-hour guarantee.

How long does the Aransas Pass ferry take?

TxDOT says the quarter-mile channel crossing typically takes less than ten minutes; that is not the boarding wait or total trip time. Queues and service interruptions vary. No assumed ferry wait is added here. See the official TxDOT ferry information and our Port Aransas ferry guide for status and camera links.

How do I calculate the drive from CRP airport?

Set Corpus Christi International Airport (CRP) as the origin and choose downtown Port Aransas or your confirmed Beached Inn rental address as the destination. A city-origin estimate is not an airport estimate. Use a current maps app and allow for traffic, stops and any ferry queue.

Are tolls required on any of these routes?

Optional only. From Austin, the SH-130 toll bypass is recommended during weekday afternoons to skip central Austin's I-35 traffic. From Houston, you can use the Sam Houston Tollway (Beltway 8) to leave the metro faster. Neither is strictly required to reach Cinnamon Shore.

Can I drive a big RV in?

Yes — both routes accommodate RVs. Take the Causeway if you're towing or driving an oversized rig; the ferry has limited boat-by-boat clearance and can mean longer staging. Cinnamon Shore is a residential community; check parking instructions in your booking confirmation.

When can I check in?

Check-in instructions, parking guidance, and door codes for Beached Inn arrive in your email confirmation from Cinnamon Shore Vacation Rentals. Stays are fully self-guided — there's no in-person meet.
