How to pay less for gas on a Port Aransas trip
- Coming by ferry: top off in Aransas Pass. Several stations line TX-361 before the ferry staging lanes, and mainland prices usually run below island prices. (More in our ferry guide.)
- Coming from Corpus Christi: fill up before the JFK Causeway. Once you cross onto the island it's about 30 minutes of beach highway with limited fuel until town — see directions.
- Renting a golf cart instead of driving? Most in-town errands don't need your car at all — the island is small and cart-friendly (golf cart guide).
- Towing a boat? Both island stations sell diesel, but big fill-ups are cheaper on the mainland.
Port Aransas gas prices FAQ
How much is gas in Port Aransas right now?
There is no official live per-station price feed anywhere (apps that show one are scraping estimates), so this page shows the official U.S. Energy Information Administration weekly Texas average instead — updated every Monday and shown above with its week label. Island stations typically run somewhat above that statewide average; stations in Aransas Pass, before the ferry, tend to sit closer to it.
Is gas more expensive in Port Aransas than on the mainland?
Usually, yes — island fuel typically costs a bit more than in Aransas Pass or Corpus Christi, which is normal for barrier-island stations with higher delivery costs. The difference is usually modest, but on a big fill-up it's worth topping off in Aransas Pass before you cross the ferry.
Where should I fill up before arriving in Port Aransas?
Coming by ferry: top off in Aransas Pass — there are several stations along TX-361 before the ferry staging lanes. Coming up the island from Corpus Christi: fill up along South Padre Island Drive (TX-358) before crossing the JFK Causeway, then it's about 30 minutes of beach highway with limited fuel until town.
Which gas stations are in Port Aransas?
The two main fuel stops are the Stripes/7-Eleven at 701 S. Alister St (Exxon fuel, open 24/7, near the ferry landing) and The Texan at 3401 State Highway 361 on the south side of town, which is the closest pump to Cinnamon Shore. Both are combined convenience stores with food inside.
Is there diesel in Port Aransas?
Yes — both main stations sell diesel, and the weekly Gulf Coast diesel average is shown above for reference. If you're towing a boat or camper, the same advice applies: mainland fuel in Aransas Pass or Corpus Christi usually runs a little cheaper than on the island.
Where does this page's price data come from?
From the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), the federal agency that surveys retail fuel prices nationwide. We show the weekly Texas statewide average for regular gasoline and the Gulf Coast regional average for diesel, each labeled with the week it covers. EIA releases new numbers every Monday afternoon; this page refreshes automatically.
