Where is Port Aransas Beach?

Port Aransas Beach faces the Gulf on Mustang Island, Texas. It is not the ferry waterfront, the mainland at Aransas Pass, or South Padre Island.

Think of Port Aransas Beach as a stretch of Gulf shoreline with multiple access points, not a single entrance gate. Port Aransas occupies the northern end of Mustang Island. The ferry arrives on the ship-channel side of town; you still need to reach the Gulf-facing beach. Use this guide to choose a destination, then our directions guide to plan your arrival.

Find the Gulf side—not the ferry landing

Roberts Point Park and the ferry landing face the working ship channel. They are useful for waterfront views, not substitutes for the Gulf swimming beach. Set a specific beach-access destination in your map rather than navigating only to Port Aransas city center.

Choose a public beach access point

The official tourism beach overview identifies I.B. Magee Beach Park and Horace Caldwell Pier as north-end landmarks and lists Access Roads 1, 1A, 2 and 3 along Mustang Island. These roads serve different stretches of shoreline; choose the one for your destination rather than treating every access as downtown Port Aransas.

Use marked public access and obey current signs, barricades and protected-dune restrictions. A map pin does not guarantee that a vehicle route is open or that sand is suitable for your vehicle.

Parking, walking and golf carts

Check our beach parking permit guide for managed areas and exceptions. Walking onto the beach and parking a vehicle are different questions; do not assume a permit covers every neighboring park.

For vehicles, read the separate beach-driving guide and golf cart rules. Renting a cart is not permission to drive it on any road to the beach.

How nearby beaches differ

Mustang Island State Park is a separate state-managed destination farther south on the same island, with its own fees and rules. Padre Island National Seashore is on North Padre Island, not in downtown Port Aransas. San José Island is across the channel and reached by passenger boat, not by driving across a beach bridge.

Cinnamon Shore fronts the Mustang Island Gulf shoreline, but community parking, amenities and boardwalk access should not be treated as general public visitor facilities. See what beach Cinnamon Shore is on for that distinction.

Before you head onto the sand

Check beach conditions, local warning flags and weather. Read our jellyfish identification and safety guide, keep clear of wildlife and protected dunes, and supervise children near both the water and vehicle lanes.
